Corporate Welfare: Pimping Out Privilege

From the Associated Press...

HIGH POINT, N.C. - The Web site for clothing maker Polo Ralph Lauren will receive $1.4 million in cash incentives for its planned call and distribution center in High Point, city officials said.

The incentives approved Thursday were in addition to a $1.5 million grant from the state and a $650,000 grant being considered by Guilford County commissioners. The incentives were the second-largest economic incentive package ever offered by the city.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Newell Rubbermaid Inc., which sells an array of consumer products from pens to plastic ware, said Monday it will expand near Charlotte and create 320 jobs over five years.

North Carolina state officials on Monday promised the Atlanta-based company as much as $6.6 million in tax breaks over nine years to bring the expansion to Huntersville, about 15 miles north of Charlotte.

Sliding further down the slippery slope deeper into corporate fascism. Of course, the U.S. Government is the largest corporation in history. Corporations are merely memes, created by the merger of business and the State.
